Garden Design
Garden Design
Enhance your outdoor area with a custom garden design. With thirty years of horticultural expertise, I turn gardens into spaces that are both practical and visually appealing. Whether you dream of a family-friendly space, a peaceful relaxation spot, or a sanctuary for wildlife, I will work closely with you to understand your requirements and craft a tailored design solution.
My focus lies on cost-effective and practical functionality, balanced with a deep understanding of plant selection and garden structure. My goal is to interpret your needs and wishes so that you can reconnect with your garden and derive the most use and pleasure from it.
Prices will vary based on the garden's size and the customer's needs, ranging from approximately £750 to £3000.
The Design Process
Consultation
Every design project begins with an initial phone conversation to determine how I can best assist you. If we decide that I am the suitable garden designer for your needs, I will arrange a visit to your garden. During this visit, we will talk about how you intend to use your garden, go over your ideas and aspirations, and discuss your style preferences to understand the look and feel you want to achieve. We'll also take into account your budget and maintenance capabilities. I will evaluate the site and its surroundings and take photographs. As a result of the visit I will produce a Client Brief.
After the visit, I will send you a Garden Design Proposal based on the Client Brief. This will include the brief, listing any challenges with the site and the cost of my design work. At this stage, I will ask you for a deposit of 30%. Once I have your written acceptance of the proposal, we will schedule a time for the survey and begin the design process.
Survey and 3D Scan
My design partner and I will perform a thorough survey of your site, gathering all necessary measurements to develop the design concepts. Our digital scanning technology enables us to create highly accurate dimension plans of your garden and, when applicable, generate complete 3D plans and elevations. This process will capture exact measurements, the locations of existing features and plants, as well as any level changes. With this information, a detailed 3D existing layout plan will be crafted. From this, I will create design concept(s) for us to review together, ensuring we find the best possible solutions for your garden.
Concept Review
I will visit your garden again to review the design concepts I propose. Together, we will select the design elements that work best and discuss materials and plants. After this meeting, I will prepare the final layout plan and planting design.
Final Plans
When this stage of the process is complete, you will receive several different versions of the plan:
Construction Plans:
Full-colour, detailed scale plans showing the layout of hard landscaping, any structural features like arbours or pergolas, and design elements like meadow planting, ponds, or water features. They will include dimensions and levels with 3D elevations and notes where applicable. These can be given to the landscaper for estimating purposes.
Planting Plans:
2D plan(s) showing location and plant names, plus 3D visualisations where appropriate.
Supporting documents include:
Plant List:
A plant identification document with colour images, plant height, spread and season of interest for each plant.
Design Notes:
Any notes and suggestions related to the above plans and a list of nurseries, garden centres, and online suppliers for plants and soft landscaping materials.
